AAL Forum 2011 Executive Summary
In September, 2011, more than 600 delegates gathered for the third Annual Ambient Assisted Living Forum, this year held in Lecce, Italy. The three-day conference provided a platform for many AAL projects to showcase the work they have been doing as part of the programme and bring their products to the attention of an influential and receptive audience.
As well as being a showcase for AAL products and services, all designed to meet the challenges society faces with its ageing population, the forum was also a platform for debate and discussion through its lively and vibrant plenary sessions and side events.

Social innovation was a key theme of the Forum, with many speakers emphasising the need for clear thinking in terms of applying new and innovative solutions when addressing the needs of our ageing population – but the commercial opportunities that exist in addressing these needs were also emphasised. Innovation creates new jobs, supports business and, of course, supports older people. This has been a consistent message since the formation of the AAL JP in 2008, but now things have changed and the message is clear – we need to start seeing the products and services in place.
As media partners for the Forum, Insight Publishers was commissioned to produce this exclusive Executive Summary brochure, outlining the key messages made at the plenary sessions and analysing the debates. The resulting publication provides a valuable insight into the important work being done by the Joint Programme as well as identifing the key issues that need to be addressed in the future.
