Teach creationism alongside evolutionary theory, say Britons
Science lessons should teach both evolutionary theory and Christian creationism, according to a survey conducted by the British Council.
Over half (54 per cent) of UK adults think that schools should teach both scientific and religious explanations for human existence, the survey found. Market research company Ipsos MORI conducted the survey around the globe, with an overwhelming 75 per cent of people concurring that evolutionary theory should be taught in schools, although not always as a priority over religious theories.
The British Council, which is launching a range of educational resources to promote the study of Darwin’s theory as part of their Darwin Now programme, conducted the survey to see how attitudes to evolutionary theory have changed since the publication of Darwin’s The Origin of Species one-hundred years ago, and of the effect it has had on modern science.
