Recession results in lower CO2 emissions
2009 saw a drop in global CO2 emissions, a study has discovered. This is the first time in the decade for levels to drop and has been mainly attributed to the downturn in the global economy. Despite a global decrease, both China and India increased their emissions by 9 and 6 perfect respectively.

Golden Delicious DNA sequenced
An international collaboration has resulted in the Golden Delicious apple having its genetic code sequenced. This discovery comes just a week following the sequencing of wheat’s DNA. The sequencing should help in producing tastier and more disease-resistant crops.
Spinach and sprouts can help reduce the risk of diabetes
A new study, led by the University of Leicester has shown that eating green, leafy vegetables daily can significantly reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes. The research has brought together the results of six studies, involving over 220,000 participants.
