Chemical tagging threatens illegal activity
Scientists at the University of Oviedo in Spain have developed a new method for tagging and identifying objects, substances and even living creatures. The new technique will allow the tracking of illegal gunpowder use – even after it has been denotated. The results also have implications for differentiating between wild and farmed fish.

A second earth discovered
The existence of an Earth-like planet has been confirmed by astronomers. Kepler 22-b has been discovered to be orbiting a star not unlike our Sun, located approximately 600 light years away. It is around 2.4 times the size of Earth and has a temperature of about 22C. Despite it’s resemblance to Earth, the Keplar team are as of yet unsure whether Kepler 22-b is made of rock, gas or liquid.
Next generation of superstars in ‘Dragonfish’ cluster
The most numerous group of young supermassive stars to be observed in our galaxy has been discovered by astronomers. The stars number in their hundreds of thousands and include several hundred blue stars dozens of times heavier than our sun. The light emitted by these newborn stars pushes out and heats the gas that gave them birth, creating a glowing hollow shell a hundred light years wide.
